About Tanabe
INTRODUCTION
Since its founding, Tanabe has cultivated “thermal technology” over the course of a century. We have adapted and applied this thermal technology in various ways to meet the needs of the times. How can we reduce waste? How can we reuse limited resources? How can we reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Tanabe is an “innovator in thermal technology,” tackling the challenges of our time through this expertise.

Innovator in Thermal Technology
INTRODUCTION-1
Tanabe’s history began with a maintenance business for electric furnaces owned by a local company. In 1957, the company manufactured and delivered its first electric furnace, transforming itself into a manufacturer of electric furnaces for the steel industry. Since then, it has been supplying a wide range of industrial furnaces—including various types of electric furnaces, melting furnaces, rotary kilns, and oven furnaces—to a broad spectrum of industries.

At Tanabe, with a sincere and flexible approach to customer feedback and a pioneering spirit that embraces challenges, we are expanding our electric furnace technology—which was originally used primarily for ferroalloy production and non-ferrous metal smelting—from smelting and melting to new materials and even the environmental sector. Furthermore, in response to new manufacturing processes across diversifying industrial sectors, we propose “processing systems” that take a systematic, holistic view of the entire process. Across a wide range of fields centered on thermal technology, we continue to meet the needs of the times.

INTRODUCTION-2
In recent years, carbon neutrality has become a global initiative. It is an effort that can be described as humanity’s responsibility to protect the global environment. One of the major initiatives within this effort is the promotion of electric power. At Tanabe, we support global carbon neutrality efforts by providing high-temperature, high-seal rotary kilns that apply thermal technology to enable continuous heat treatment of high-performance powders, such as those used in rechargeable battery materials.

Tanabe’s thermal technologies—such as those for the smelting and reduction of manufacturing by-products to meet the growing demand for the recovery of valuable metals in the environmental and resource recycling sectors, and technologies for reducing the volume of municipal waste incineration ash to help alleviate serious waste problems, and electric furnace technology for the production of “rock wool”—used as insulation in homes—Tanabe’s thermal technologies are businesses that support people’s lives and make a significant contribution to society.

INTRODUCTION-3
In 1971, the company’s proprietary technology was recognized, leading to the export of a plant to the United States, a global leader in ferroalloy production. At the time, the entry of this Japanese company—which was unknown internationally—drew significant attention, and local industry magazines dubbed it the “Little Giant.” This marked the beginning of a surge in inquiries from the international market; in 1975, the company received an order from the former Soviet Union for the world’s largest furnace, and Tanabe’s furnaces grew into a global brand.

Since delivering our first electric furnace to South Korea in 1963, we have continued to expand our overseas deliveries, primarily to Asia and Europe, including the United States, China, and Russia. In recent years, demand has been on the rise due to the need for battery manufacturing driven by carbon neutrality initiatives, and to date, we have delivered our products to 30 countries. Moving forward, we will continue to meet global needs as an “innovator in thermal technology.”
