It's a job that gives me a sense of fulfillment every day.

My main job in the Technology Headquarters is to design machinery and equipment, but we are also involved in all processes, from quotations to design, production, and trial operation. We listen to the customer's requests for the equipment they want and consider the specifications and capabilities. If the customer is satisfied, we receive an order and then proceed with detailed design. Being involved in all processes can be difficult, but I find it all the more rewarding.

I think the atmosphere at the company is very good. Everyone gets along well across generations, from young employees in their 20s to veterans in their 50s and 60s, and there is closeness between departments. Everyone is focused on their work, but seniors are always willing to answer any sudden questions. Tanabe also has many business trips, so you can travel to various places around the country. If you have the chance, you can even go overseas. Business trips with seniors can be nerve-wracking, but they invite you out to dinner in the evening, so it's a chance to get to know them better. The relationships you build during business trips continue even after you return to the office, making day-to-day collaboration and mutual support between departments very smooth. Frequent business trips are often seen as a disadvantage, but I feel there are also benefits to having so many trips.

The most memorable experience since joining the company was my first time working on equipment for Malaysia. At the time, it was my first time going overseas and being in charge of a project, so I was full of anxiety. During the trial run for operations at the customer's factory, an unexpected problem prevented the process from going according to plan, causing inconvenience to the customer. As it was overseas, it was not easy for the company to increase staff, so we had no choice but to solve the problem ourselves. I still remember the words of thanks and the sense of accomplishment I felt when we completed all the processes and delivered the equipment to the customer safely.

If you have knowledge of machinery, it will be easier to grasp the basics of the job, but once you join the company, your seniors and superiors will kindly teach you the knowledge you actually need for the job, so there's no need to worry if you didn't major in engineering as a student. I think what's more important than knowledge is a spirit of inquiry to learn new knowledge and the ability to communicate with those around you. Mechanical design means you'll spend a lot of time alone in front of a computer, but it's also a department where you interact with a variety of people, including within the company, partner companies, and customers. Of course, you'll talk about work, but I think it's important to build relationships so that you can have casual conversations. So, I would encourage people who enjoy interacting with others to join us!
